Workshops

Adults and Seniors

  • Hepatitis B Education, Outreach, and Awareness. Raising awareness of Hepatitis B in our community, APHCV offers testing for Hepatitis B, vaccination, and treatment. APHCV is a proud member of the Los Angeles County Hepatitis B Coalition, a professional group seeking to rid our community of Hepatitis B.
  • Senior Immunization Awareness. Gives seniors an understanding of available immunizations, including hepatitis B, influenza, and pneumococcal vaccinations.
  • Obesity Prevention. Addresses the dangers of obesity and explores changes in lifestyle needed to reduce obesity risk.
  • Diabetes Management. A workshop for those at-risk for diabetes or those already living with diabetes. Uses preventive measures and self-management strategies to increase the quality of life for those affected.
  • Medicare Recruitment. This workshop offers an overview of and enrollment in the Medicare and Medicare Part D programs.
  • Senior Enabling. Includes transportation services and social interaction through field trips to museums, aquariums, and other local places of interests.

Men

  • Men's Health Clinic. Join us at our Los Feliz Health Center location every Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm for our Men's Health Clinic, which incorporates both family planning and HIV/STD testing, counseling, and treatment, for access to services all in one location. Women

  • New Mom Educational Workshops. Topics include breast feeding, car safety, potty training, lead poisoning concerns, and nutritional education.
  • Family Planning. Includes pregnancy testing, HIV/STD testing, counseling, and treatment.
  • WISEWOMAN Hypertension Management For Women. Seeking to increase prevention and awareness of cardiovascular disease in women ages 40 to 64, the WISEWOMAN program provides patients with access to screenings and lifestyle interventions. This allows patients to monitor their own individual risks and enable them to make better lifestyle choices.
  • Breastfeeding Workshops. Breastfeeding is one of the best ways to keep your new baby happy, healthy and strong. Learn helpful techniques, the important benefits of breastfeeding and get answers to all of your questions.

Youth

  • Reach Out and Read. Our medical practitioners will discuss with parents the importance of reading with their children, particularly between ages 6 months and 5 years. In addition, children are given books to read at the end of their physical.
  • Nutrition Counseling. Educates children on the importance of good diet, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices. Helps children set goals for staying healthy and encourages physical activity, including an introduction to our fitness classes for youth.
  • Teen Pregnancy Prevention. Educates teens on the risks of early pregnancy and presents all available options from abstinence to contraceptives and their usage.
  • Leadership Development. Trains youth on becoming critical thinkers, strong leaders, and responsible members of our community. APHCV provides youth with community service opportunities, internships, and the chance to serve on our Youth Advisory Board or the Student Advisory Boards at John Marshall or Belmont High Schools. A select member or sometimes multiple members from each board are elected to sit on the APHCV Board of Directors, where they will assist in making policy decisions for APHCV.
  • After School Activities. APHCV offers numerous after-school activities for children of all ages, including art, dance, and drama workshops, photography classes, and field trip opportunities.
