Join Asian Pacific Health Care Venture's
25th Anniversary
APHCV was established in 1986 by health providers concerned over gaps in available health care services to low-income, uninsured, and monolingual Asians. APHCV provided a number of health education programs and collaborated on various projects with other Asian and Pacific Islander organizations to assess, plan, and provide culturally competent health education programs. In June 1997, APHCV established its first Community Health Center, the APHCV-Los Feliz Health Center, and began providing direct clinical targeting low-income, uninsured and monolingual Asians in the Hollywood/Los Feliz/Silver Lake areas of Los Angeles, part of Los Angeles County SPA 4. APHCV continued to expand with additional clinic sites, opening the APHCV-John Marshall High School Health Center in April 2001 and APHCV-Belmont Health Services in August 2009.
When APHCV opened the APHCV-Los Feliz Health Center in 1997, it started with a 0.5 FTE Medical Director and one clinician. In the first year of operations, the number of patients more than tripled from 744 to 2,790 patients. Within a few years, the need for APHCV’s multi-cultural and multi-lingual services became even more apparent by the conditions of incoming patients. Because of language differences, cultural challenges and economic hardship, many patients came in for episodic care, and often with untreated delayed care. For many chronically ill patients, APHCV provided their first primary care provider since their arrival in the United States. By 1999, the Los Feliz Health Center had 3.5 FTE clinicians and 13,000 patient visits a year, providing much needed services for low-income families. Today, APHCV has grown to become one of the largest Asian health care service organizations in southern California, providing health services to 12,461 patients in over 44,000 patient visits in 2011.
This year APHCV is "Celebrating 25 Year of Commitment to Community Health." We invite you to join us as we celebrate with the opening of two new community health centers: the APHCV-El Monte/Rosemead Health Center and the APHCV-Belmont Wellness Center; and the expansion of the APHCV-Los Feliz Health Center.
